 What is LIPU ?

The LIPU is part of a world plan: our actions are part of the global strategy of BirdLife International, a group of beyond 100 associations that develop actions and plans for the nature in each part of the world.

 

The LIPU, "Italian Society for the Protection of Birds" since 1965 is the most important Italian association for birds and nature protection. It gathers beyond 50.000 partners and donors who contribute with inscription's quotas to all our plans.

Here some of these:

  • the"hospitals" reinstate wounded birds to the wild life every year, like the Birds of prey Rescue Centre of Parma and Verona; the Sea and Lake Birds Rescue Centre of Leghorn; the Wildlife Rescue Centre of Rome and Ficuzza.
  • the natural oases managed to protect the nature, where everyone can observe the animals without disturb them too.
  • the special plans for the study and the protection of animals threatened of extinction, like the Griffon Vulture, and for the reinstatement of species already extinct in Italy like the White-headed Duck and the White Stork;
  • rights actions for safeguarding rare and threatened important species, like the migrants on the "Narrow of Messina", and for improving the legislations on the hunting and on the parks;
  • the environmental education with interventions in the schools, on the press, among the people and with advices to the public corporate body to encourage the knowledge and the respect of the nature.
